So the cold weather coming into the Tulsa area with it brings certain Critters this time of year. Some rodents hibernate and hunker down for the season, and some try to find a place to stay warm. Mice and rats specifically, try to find a warm place inside a facility, home, or building. This brings certain challenges for Pest Control operators.

the Tulsa area economy is booming. Businesses are coming into town, deals are being made, and with all of this comes new construction. Housing additions are popping up everywhere inside and outside of Tulsa, with this new construction mice and rats are finding plenty of shelter inside these homes. Now, of course with new construction, there are not many places to hide once the home is built but we have seen some cases where mice and rats find their way into a nearly completed house to hunker down for the winter.

Mice and rats reproduce year-round, so having multiple techniques on dealing with mice and rats is crucial. Now of course mice don’t come from nowhere,so  residential areas usually are the cause,  neighbor houses, or if there is any vacant homes in the area that might be a place where they found safety and a food source.

Pathfinder pest control is preparing for 2023 by retraining our technicians on how to deal with this growing population of mice and rats in our area.  Here are some of the techniques our technicians are learning.

Trap shy

Just like the name suggests trap shy means Rodents are shy to eat the bait on a trap or even avoid him. They stay away out skeptical, sense danger begin, or just begin caution. . Learning the behavior of the mice and their biology can help create an environment that even a trapped Shy mouse won’t resist a deadly end.

Rodent  Identification

This technique is lesson one when it comes to Pest Control.  whether it’s a mouse or a rat you also need to know what type of rat and what type of mice to apply the right technique on eliminating them. This is not always an easy task because of course when the technician comes out to the property, it’s usually during the day, and the rats and mice are hiding for safety. So using your training, knowledge, and techniques is important when creating a pest-free environment.

Exclusion

At Pathfinder Pest Control we don’t consider ourselves building engineers but sometimes we have to think like one. Exclusion consists of sealing, Windows adding door jams, and looking around to detect air movement through rooms to detect holes. Remember that rodents spend the whole night looking for food and shelter. So just like we go to work for 8 hours for a job, they spent that same amount of time a night looking for food and shelter. So they can get pretty good at it. so the experience is key when it comes to calculating where and when these pests will potentially enter your home.
